![]() ![]() ![]() 1991 3000 GTO (basically)
We bought the car with about 112k miles on it (bad idea if you plan on dogging it at all). After about 3k miles it was done. First we herd the lash adjusters making noise so we changed those out with big bore, after market lash adjusters. The noise was still there and we concluded that it wasn't just the lash adjusters making noise the engine was knocking. We bought a low mileage engine from Venus Auto for about $2700 (the new engine came with a Os giken clutch and a 6 speed tranny, also there were no pre cats) and did the swap. We didn't change out the oil cooler (must do!!!!!) and so while road testing we experienced a serious $2700 problem, the engine threw a rod straight through the oil pan. Moral of the story take your time and don't be cheap replace pretty much any part that has 100k miles on it.
![]() Well here is to new beginings as we tear down the motor to bare block to get rebuilt .
It should take a couple of weeks to get done !
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Here is the root of the problem! Remember the knocking I mentioned earlier? This is what a spun rod bearing leaves behind. We are pretty sure the oil cooler is full of these metal shavings as well.
